Editorial for LGBT-Themed Special Issue of College Newspaper
When I was editor-in-chief of Lebanon Valley College's student newspaper, La Vie Collegienne, I oversaw the creation and development of a LGBT-themed special issue of the paper. This issue featured numerous articles about the LGBT community, history, and representation in the media, as well as personal coming out stories written by LGBT students at LVC.
I wrote the front page editorial for this special issue of the newspaper to inform readers of the topics the newspaper staff were writing about in this issue and to make the case why we decided to dedicate the majority of this issue to topics involving and affecting the LGBT community on campus and elsewhere.
I offered both LGBT and non-LGBT readers why these articles were not just appealing to LGBT students and faculty but to everyone on campus, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. I also encouraged readers to have open minds while reading the articles contained in this issue, regardless of their own personal opinions on LGBT people, personal expressions, or topics.
Overall, I think my editorial made a good argument for why the newspaper staff created this specifically themed issue and why the topics written in the issue were so important to discuss.
